"You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." (Ephesians 4:22-24 NIV)
It feels good when I make healthy choices. I also love it when I see people around me make good choices. Sunday as we were leaving church service Mary noticed I had a cup of coffee and asked for a drink. So I gave her the cup. About that time a big gust of wind came up and she was wearing her favorite red hat. She immediately threw her hand up to grab the hat from flying off while forgetting she was holding the cup of coffee. Coffee spilled all over the hat.
Now she had a choice. She could be mad about it and possibly ruin the rest of the day or we could laugh about it and just clean up the mess. She chose the latter. We both looked at each other and just started laughing. I got her some napkins and water to help clean it up. Later that day we couldn't even tell there had been any coffee spilled on the hat! What a waste it would've been if she she had let it ruin her day.
In Celebrate Recovery we learn that everything we do is based on choices. Making the right choice or choosing the wrong choice. There's going to be messes made in our lives and the lives of the ones we're helping. So we can choose either to help clean up the mess with a good attitude or get mad about it.
Making the right choice involves choosing to have a positive attitude before things get messed up. Don't you just love making "Life's Healing Choices" today?
