Going to God's house

Psalms 122: 1-6

I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD." And now we are standing here inside your gates, O Jerusalem. Jerusalem is a well-built city, knit together as a single unit. All the people of Israel -- the LORD's people -- make their pilgrimage here. They come to give thanks to the name of the LORD as the law requires. Here stand the thrones where judgment is given, the thrones of the dynasty of David. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. May all who love this city prosper.

Going to God's house can be a chore or a delight. For the psalmist, it was a delight. As a pilgrim attending one of the three great religious festivals, he rejoiced to worship with God's people in God's house. We may find worship a chore if we have unconfessed sin or if our love for God has cooled. But if we are close to God and enjoy his presence, we will be eager to worship and praise him. Our attitude toward God will determine our view of worship.

  1. I too grew up on the streets of california back in the timothy leary days of free love sex, rock and roll, and more. Them days didnt last however. it became all about hatred, dog eat dog. I may have been the worst. my attitude about God was an attitude of contempt. breaking weak was the going term. God, one day, surrounded me, litirally with his precious spirit. I was oblivious to all others around me and all the stuff in the world was meant nothing. God made a believer out me that day. As a consequence of that I turned to God. god had taken this dog and made him a loving caring person. Now my whole day, day after day, is in loving God, giving praise to the Lord non-stop.
